The First Yew Chung School
The first Yew Chung school was founded in 1932 by Madam Tsang Chor-hang. Our founder had a unique vision to educate students beyond the classroom and to instil a sense of societal consciousness.

Reform and Expansion
After finishing her studies in the US, Dr. Betty Chan Po-king, Madam Tsang’s daughter, took over from her mother and continued Yew Chung’s commitment to quality education. Leading the reform in Early Childhood Education in Hong Kong, she promoted the pioneering concept of the open classroom and introduced the idea of learning through play.

Global Perspectives
It was during this unique decade in Hong Kong’s colonial history that we began to question what was true international education, and how the best of East and West could be fused together.

Yew Chung International School expanded to Secondary, and new sister schools were opened in Shanghai and Beijing upon government invitations.
Creating the International Education System
During the 1990s, the success of YCIS in Hong Kong brought about invitations to open sister schools in Shanghai and Beijing to meet the needs of the expatriate community in Mainland China.
